Construction of the prestigious extension of the Hong Kong
Convention & Exhibition Centre, a new landmark for Hong Kong,
and a major construction challenge.
With its striking curved roof and huge volumes, the building was
completed in only 26 months in time for the Hong Kong Handover
Ceremony between China and Great Britain.
Among its facilities are 3 exhibition halls, a main Convention
Hall with 4,300 seating capacity, a Grand Foyer with 30m high
windows and a 180 degree panorama of Hong Kong’s harbour, 4
restaurants and 26 meeting rooms. |
|
Technical information:
The building has two150 metre long core-walls which surround the
large exhibition and conference halls in the centre and support
the 40,000 sq m roof.
The roof is a complex structure made up of
six pairs of steel trusses, measuring up to 81 m long, 18 m high
and weighing up to 460 T each.
